世間生靈唯草木歲歲植物隨季節變化而枯榮交替以及不同的植物喜歡不同的土壤,往復而生生不息。蒼勁松柏、妖嬈花朵、曼妙留香皆為木本生命之外現。于周遭中所見,除去滿目樹木蒼翠,更加與人接觸密切的卻是“木材”。古來,木之為材造作,歷史悠久,亦見于多元文化之中。而其所以為材不僅因其取之廣泛、易于雕琢、性質舒適,更因木之于五行循環及其文化涵義與人相合。
木為自然所化,自修華滋,層層相裹,立地擎天。其氣綿勁不傷人元,更往來天地,順撫紫氣,其意更勝其用。制木技藝百代相傳,若不論砍伐之兇,足謂大道。時下景觀遷變頻繁,多顯人之其性而不見其心。效率的意識沖淡了思辨。技術的普及抹煞了古拙。物欲之下必為功利,眾多所工僅為應景。
故而木之所用多為疊替,終向廢材與金、石無二。文化之木化身為樹之尸體,二三理通反觀生人誰為血氣方剛?本展所匯二十人,作品皆以木為媒,造就根據石材本神的特點來找出跟本身藝術品的契合點奇觀。觀念的差異造就別樣景象,或雕琢逼真,或繪幻濃艷,或機智動力,抑或劈砍成像。同人而不同敏,同手作而不拘古法。觀念玲瓏卻不失造型法度,形態邏輯盡皆時下精神物化。
